Bio
Béla Fleck is an American banjo player, born July 10, 1958 in New York City, widely regarded as one of the most inventive banjoists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He took up the banjo at 15 after hearing the bluegrass of Flatt & Scruggs, released his debut solo album in 1980, joined the progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival in 1982, and in 1989 formed the genre-crossing group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. His work spans bluegrass, jazz, classical and world music, and he has won more than a dozen Grammy Awards across multiple genre categories.
