Bio
Ravi Coltrane is an American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer born in 1965 on Long Island, New York. He is the son of saxophonist John Coltrane and pianist Alice Coltrane, and was named after Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar. He studied saxophone at the California Institute of the Arts and emerged in the 1990s working with Steve Coleman and Elvin Jones before establishing a career as a leader and founding the RKM record label.
