Stone Temple Pilots is an American rock band formed in San Diego, California, in 1989, originally featuring vocalist Scott Weiland. Associated with alternative rock and grunge, the band's 1992 debut Core helped popularize grunge, and its 1994 follow-up Purple debuted at number one on the US album chart. Weiland fronted the band until 2013 and died in 2015.
