Avalon Faire is an award-winning medieval festival in the piney woods of East Texas built around an Arthurian storyline: Lady Elaine welcomes visitors to celebrate King Arthur's coronation while Morgan la Fey schemes against Queen Guinevere, and the court commissions guests with titles of honor every day. It is a small faire that leans intimate and affordable - $20 adult admission, kids under 4 free, Sunday buy-one-get-one at the gate - with birds of prey, jousting, mead tastings, after-hours feasts, and on-site RV and tent camping with hot showers and a nightly communal bonfire just steps from the gates.

Do I need a costume?
Garb is welcomed enthusiastically but optional, the faire's own line is that it loves patrons going full-out with costume and (peace-tied) weapons, and attendees describe it as a relaxed, low-cost starter faire where nobody needs an elaborate kit

The Arthurian cast holds a daily Commissioning Ceremony awarding titles of honor to guests, birthday visitors can join the parade, and shows include audience-participation games. Daily mead tastings, a piping contest, and after-hours feasts round out the participatory calendar

How do I get to Avalon Faire?
By train 1
A genuine rail option: the daily Texas Eagle (Chicago-St. Louis-Dallas-San Antonio-Los Angeles) stops at Longview, about 12 miles from the faire grounds. From the station, finish with a short rideshare or a pickup arranged with your lodging, there is no local transit onward to Kilgore

RV camping with electric and water hookups is $65 per weekend (Friday noon to Monday noon; faire admission not included), plus a $50 refundable site-condition deposit collected on site by cash or check. Camp-a-Lot season camping with hookups is $350 and includes two season passes
A van fits the primitive tier at $35 per weekend (or $65 with hookups); generators are allowed. Same $50 refundable deposit applies
