What's special
The Bald Head Island Pirate Invasion is a volunteer-run, non-profit pirate weekend on North Carolina's car-free Bald Head Island. Each summer a pirate encampment takes over Marina Park with sea chanties, sword-fighting demonstrations and a treasure hunt, a sea battle unfolds at Beach Access #5, and evenings bring a Party with the Pirates plus lantern-lit ghost walks, followed by breakfast with the pirates on Sunday. Long associated with Captain Horatio Sinbad and his tall ship Meka II, the 2026 edition carried on in his memory after his passing.

The 2026 invasion ran July 31-August 2, with a Saturday Marina Park program of performances by The Motley Tones and Sons of the Sword, magic and The Shadow Players, a noon sea battle at Beach Access #5, a treasure hunt, an evening Party with the Pirates at The Wisp, timed Pirate Ghost Walks, and Sunday breakfast with the pirates.

Do I need a costume?
Pirate garb is warmly encouraged and a marketplace of period clothing and pirate merchandise is on site, with local shops (the Old Baldy Museum Shop, Maritime Market) selling hats, eye patches and accessories; costumes are optional for visitors

Visitors can tour the pirate encampment, listen to sea chanties, watch sword-fighting demonstrations, gather for the noon sea battle at Beach Access #5, join the treasure hunt, and take booked lantern-lit Pirate Ghost Walks in the evening
