Boston Early Music Festival

The Boston Early Music Festival is a biennial week of baroque and Renaissance opera and concerts, and its 24th edition runs June 6 to 13, 2027. At its center is a fully staged production of Telemann's Emma und Eginhard, directed musically by Paul O'Dette and Stephen Stubbs and co-produced with the Magdeburg Telemann Festival, with four performances at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre. Around it are 18 Festival Concerts, mostly at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall, from Tafelmusik with Rachel Podger, Stile Antico, The Gesualdo Six, Il Pomo d'Oro, Piffaro, ACRONYM and AGAVE, plus Lampe's comic chamber opera The Dragon of Wantley and morning organ and keyboard mini-festivals. The Exhibition at the Colonnade Hotel, billed as North America's largest early music trade show, brings together makers of period instruments, music publishers and dealers in rare books and manuscripts.

Days run from morning organ or keyboard recitals through concerts at 5 PM and 8 PM to late-night concerts at 10:30 PM, with the opera at 7 PM or 3:30 PM on Sundays. Festival Concerts cost $25 to $64, late-night concerts and mini-festival sessions $25, the Chamber Opera $25 to $145 and the Centerpiece Opera $30 to $250. Choosing four or more events saves 10% and buying everything saves 20%. Masterclasses, lectures and symposia are added to the schedule in early 2027, and the Exhibition opens on June 9.
