What's special

Burning Flipside is a Texas regional art and effigy-burn event inspired by Burning Man, staged in the countryside near Rockdale, Central Texas. The organizers describe it as a place for radical self-expression and an experiment in temporary community: it is organized entirely by volunteers, the art and entertainment are created solely by participants, and there are no spectators. It runs as a gift economy with no concession stands and no cash transactions, and as a Leave No Trace event where participants pack out all of their own trash. There is no headline music lineup; music comes from participant-run theme camps and bars, and the weekend culminates in the burning of a participant-built effigy

At this burn specifically

Camping in rural Central Texas near Rockdale is the event itself.
Organizers describe Burning Flipside as a Leave No Trace event with no garbage cans, where participants pack out everything they bring in, and as a gift economy: there are no concession stands, no cash transactions are permitted, and even bartering is discouraged, so attendees must arrive fully self-sufficient with their own food and drinking water.
Open camping takes place in an area participants call 'the badlands,' which is not divided into lots and is first come, first served.
Returning participants advise preparing for a hot, humid environment with the possibility of rain and mud, and for local hazards including poison ivy, fire ants, scorpions and snakes near the creek;
commonly mentioned gear includes boots, tarps, shade, a spray bottle and poison-ivy wash.
Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed.
