The experience
What's special
Myschievia, 'The North Texas Burn,' is a volunteer-run regional burn organized by North Texas Burners (NTXB). It describes itself as a temporary community existing as a forum for participant-driven creativity and artistic self-expression, with no spectators and no commerce permitted. Like other regional burns it has no headline music lineup by design: the interactive core is its theme camps, community-built art, an effigy and temple burned each year, and programming created by participants. The culture follows the Burning Man Ten Principles -- adding its own principles of Consent and 'Playful Mischief' -- and centers gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance and Leave No Trace. The 2026 edition, the 20th Myschievia, is themed 'Nat 20,' with a playful tabletop/fantasy framing of taverns, hobbit holes, fairy gardens and wizard robes

At this burn specifically
- Camping is the event: Myschievia is a multi-day Leave No Trace burn held on private rural land in North Texas, taking place on or around Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend in early October, with the gate usually opening at noon on Thursday and everyone off site by 2pm on Monday.
- Radical self-reliance is expected -- participants are told to bring enough food and water for their entire stay, a place to sleep and bedding, and personal items such as bug spray, sunscreen and medications, because the only thing sold on site is ice (available Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1pm until it runs out) and no other buying or selling is permitted.
- Leave No Trace / 'pack it in, pack it out' is strict: there are no dumpsters and no trash burning, participants carry a personal trash container while walking around, and everyone takes their own trash home to dispose of off site.
- Prohibited items include weapons, fireworks and pets.
- Theme camps are the interactive core and must keep sound within set limits, control where camp generators vent exhaust, designate an 'Earth Guardian' to police the camp for MOOP (matter out of place), and follow traffic and fuel-handling safety rules.
- RV and theme-camp/art-car placement are handled through advance registration (RV, DMV and theme camp registrations), and the site is wooded -- the organizers' work weekends clear dead branches and cut new shaded camping spots into the trees.
