The experience
What's special
Lakes of Fire is the Great Lakes Region's official Burning Man Regional Event, a participant-created gathering steeped in art, fire and community and conducted in accordance with the Ten Principles. It is put on by Great Lakes Experimental Arts, a volunteer-run 501(c)(3), and is built entirely by and for its attendees: theme camps, art, sound and fire installations, an effigy and a Temple are all created by participants rather than booked as a lineup. The 2026 edition, themed 'Grand Masquerade,' marked the event's move to a new permanent home in Luther, MI after more than a decade at Lucky Lake in Rothbury

At the 2026 event a county-wide burn ban meant the effigy and the Temple could not be burned as planned; both were left standing, and organizers announced plans to complete the ritual burn on October 10, 2026

Burn tickets do not work like a normal festival. Here is the system, the price detail is in Pricing below.

What to bring
Radical self-reliance is literal: come stocked to live the whole event unaided.
At this burn specifically
- The site hosts both theme camps and open camping, and the culture runs on radical self-reliance and Leave No Trace (a dedicated DPW and LNT team, and a 'pack it in, pack it out' MOOP ethic).
- There are no vendors and nothing is provided beyond the land itself, so participants bring everything they need to survive.
- The new Luther property (first used in 2026) is described by organizers as raw and undeveloped, with no paved roads or established infrastructure and a more rustic experience than the previous site.
- Water is available on site from a new commercial well and four hydrants, but there is no event-wide power: camps are asked to be self-powered and to bring solar setups, battery systems or fuel-based generators.
- Vehicles are generally not kept at your campsite;
- participants unload at their claim and then move cars to a parking area, and a Camped Vehicle Registration is required for any vehicle staying in camp.
