The Century Village Museum's Civil War Living History Weekend uses the museum's whole restored 19th-century village as a stage: encampments spread across the grounds, historic buildings open for tours, and narrated battle reenactments - led in character by General James A. Garfield - play out both days on the fields behind the Maple Museum. Rather than reenacting a single local battle, it recreates 1860s military and civilian life, with a cavalry demonstration, a Civil War medical compound and apothecary, a sutler general store, fashion shows, fife-and-drum music, a Saturday Civil War Ball, and a full slate of living-history talks. The museum frames the era through its own local history, foregrounding Geauga County's abolitionist activity and role in the Underground Railroad.
