What's special
The Escondido Renaissance Faire - run for more than 20 years by Olde Tyme Productions with an avowed pirate flair - is an intimate faire in the oak-shaded grass of Felicita County Park in San Diego's North County, held twice a year across spring and fall weekend pairs. Guild encampments give it a lived-in feel, with blacksmithing, archery, mock battles, and a participatory costumed archery competition using traditional bows, plus a Pirate Alley among the vendor rows. It has become strikingly popular in recent seasons, with the costume participation rate among the highest anywhere - garb is closer to the rule than the exception.

Fans call it cute, cheap by ren-faire standards, and one of the best small faires in the region: a pretty park setting, rad vendors with real variety, funny side shows, well-done mock battles, and shaded guild areas to rest in - a faire many locals hit every run, twice a year. Its recent boom is also its problem: peak Saturdays now overwhelm the small venue, on-site parking fills before opening with long overflow-shuttle waits, food lines run long from a too-small food court, and online tickets stop selling weeks ahead, catching latecomers out. Regulars go early, go Sunday, and eat before noon.

The spring 2026 run drew the biggest crowds in the faire's history - one gate worker called its peak Saturday the busiest in 25 years - with packed lanes, long food and shuttle lines, and sold-out online tickets, while the quieter, rain-thinned Sunday was widely described as the better day; attendees left debating whether the faire needs more weekends or a bigger venue.

Dressing up is the norm here to an unusual degree, attendees report that on some days nearly everyone is in garb, and visitors in street clothes are absolutely fine but may feel like the odd ones out. A genuine transit path exists: take the free San Diego Flyer shuttle or MTS Route 992 from the airport to downtown, then Rapid 235, an all-day express running the I-15 corridor every day from about 5 am to 11 pm, to Escondido Transit Center. Felicita County Park is a further 4 miles southwest of the transit center, so finish with a short rideshare hop. NCTD's Sprinter train also meets Rapid 235 at Escondido Transit Center if you are coming from Oceanside/North County coast instead
