The Georgia Mountain Scottish Festival & Highland Games celebrates Scottish heritage in the North Georgia mountains, staged at the lakeside Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee after two decades as the Blairsville Scottish Festival. The Hiawassee Scottish festival brings caber tossing and heavy athletics, massed pipe bands and a parade of tartans, Highland dancing, clan tents with an honored clan each year, sheep dogs and birds of prey, a ceilidh and a Scotch whisky tasting

The 2026 festival ran June 6-7 at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee, its second year at the new lakeside site, with massed pipe bands and a parade of tartans, caber tossing and heavy athletics, Highland dancing, clan tents, sheep dogs and falconry, and a first-ever Scotch whisky tasting held Saturday evening

Heavy athletics
Scottish heavy athletics are a centerpiece, with caber tossing and a full slate of heavy events staged by the Scottish athletes, plus kid-size, kid-safe highland athletics for children
Pipe bands & Highland dance
Massed pipe bands and a parade of tartans open the festival at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, with a pipe and drum competition, Highland dancing, and bagpipes and drums throughout the grounds
Clans & genealogy
Family clans gather in the fairgrounds village, with an honored clan each year (Clan Sutherland in 2026) and a children's passport to the clan activity at the clan tents
Taking part
Beyond the competitions there are sheep dog and falconry demonstrations, blacksmith and knife-smith demonstrations, a ceilidh, and a Scotch whisky tasting held Saturday evening at the nearby Lakeview Tavern
