What to eat & drink
The organiser's own 2026 recap press release details signature food programmes by the numbers: 297,746 cups of chilled milk poured at the Milk Bar (78% chocolate), a $1 baked potato as the Potato Booth's most-requested item among 50,711 orders, and a Maple Booth selling 9,522 maple ice cream cones among other maple treats. A new 'Best of The Fair' food and drink award programme launched in 2026, with new vendor Knightly Rose winning the Sweet category. Tasty Tuesday (Sept. 1) let fairgoers sample popular foods for $3-$5.
The experience
What's special
The Great New York State Fair, founded in 1841 and the oldest state fair in the country, ran thirteen consecutive days in the summer of 2026, from August 26 through Labor Day, drawing 962,795 visitors, its best turnout since 2019. Daily admission was a flat $8.32 including fees, with children twelve and under and seniors sixty-five and over free every day of the run. Parking in the fair's own lots was $12.41 a day, and carnival rides sat on a separate ticket from gate admission, a Wacky Wednesday wristband running thirty dollars on the fair's two Wednesdays and individual rides dropping to a dollar each on the Labor Day closer
What people love
The fair's own numbers single out its food programmes: nearly three hundred thousand cups of chilled milk poured at the Milk Bar, a one-dollar baked potato as the Potato Booth's most popular order, and a new Best of The Fair awards programme that in 2026 crowned Knightly Rose's sorbet in the Sweet category
Last time around
The completed 2026 fair drew 962,795 visitors, up 36,806 from 2025, its highest attendance since the all-time record year of 2019 (1,329,275)
