The experience

What's special

The Medieval Festival of Courage is a two-day medieval-themed harvest festival in Blue Lake, CA, held at Perigot Park and the Blue Lake Horse Arena in Humboldt County and presented by the Coastal Grove Charter School Parent Organization as a fundraiser for local schools and non-profits. Rooted in a Waldorf Michaelmas tradition (the 'Festival of Courage' celebrating the autumnal equinox), it pairs an interactive, all-ages village and global artisan market with full-contact jousting by the Knights of Valour, horseback-archery demonstrations, live music, dancing dragons, aerial acts, and a children's Enchanted Village Tour and costume contest.

Costumes & what to wear

Do I need a costume?

Costumes are welcome but optional; the festival invites guests to come in costume as any character, and it is a family event spanning all ages

Costume rules

Guests are welcome to come in costume as any character. This is a juried, medieval-themed event: all vendors must have their booth and workers dressed in the medieval theme. No dogs are allowed because of livestock throughout the event

Joining in

A hands-on, interactive village where visitors meet and interact with the villagers. Highlights include full-contact tournament jousting by the Knights of Valour (two shows daily), horseback-archery demonstrations by the Blue Lake Mounted Archers, the Saturday-morning Enchanted Village Tour for the first 100 children, Sunday student performances, a children's costume contest, aerial performances, and a global artisan market. The festival, tied to a Waldorf Michaelmas 'Festival of Courage' harvest tradition, is a fundraiser for Coastal Grove Charter School and other local schools and non-profits
