The Michigan Nordic Fire Festival is an outdoor mid-winter celebration of Viking, Norse, Nordic and Celtic culture held the last full weekend of February at the Eaton County Fairgrounds in Charlotte, Michigan. Created in 2016 by the non-profit Nordic Fire, Inc., it centers on a Friday-night Viking ship burning ceremony and adds battle and combat shows, a Ring of Steel fire performance, reenactor encampments, blacksmiths and Viking-life demonstrations, mead halls, an artisan market, food vendors, and all-day Kids Quest activities. Attendees dress warmly - many in Viking wools and furs - for a festival that has grown steadily since its founding.

Do I need a costume?
Dressing up as a Viking is encouraged but never required, the festival's own guidance says 'You are encouraged to have fun and dress up. It's not required, but you can do wonders with just an old blanket,' and attendees report many people turn out in wools and furs to look like Vikings while plenty wear regular winter clothes

Weapons policy
Period weapons are welcome but must be peace-tied to the guest at all times in a holster; any exposed blade or point must be stage-combat grade. No firearms are allowed on site (Eaton County Fairgrounds rule) except for approved reenactors, and no flame throwers. Arrows worn as costume adornment must be peace-tied and/or have tips removed; the information table helps secure weapons
