The experience
What's special
The Mourning Tea is the Festival of the Dead's daytime remembrance event: a three course Victorian high tea at the Hawthorne Hotel, taken in mourning dress, on the same October Sunday as the series' Dumb Supper. Guests bring a photo and a written page for someone they have lost, share stories in what the organizer calls a communal eulogy, and add their mementos to the Salem Witches' Book of the Dead, an annual compendium the organizer says now fills multiple volumes. A harpist plays, poetry is read, and the cups themselves are part of the program: the organizer invites guests to find messages in the tea leaves, with host Angelique Renard helping to interpret. It runs 11 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Sunday 25 October 2026
What it costs
One layer, fully published. The ticket is General Admission at $95.00, and Eventbrite's checkout adds $6.22 in fees for a total of $101.22. The three course tea and the tea leaf messages are included; nothing else is sold on top. The adjacent costs are Salem's October travel premium, mourning attire if you do not own any, and printing the photo and page the organizer asks you to bring
