North Dakota Renaissance Faire

The North Dakota Renaissance Faire is the 'original' Fargo-area Renaissance faire, produced by King Caesar Productions across two June weekends at the North Dakota Horse Park. The draw is a horse-centered, jousting-heavy program: the armored Dark Knights joust and fight, and the after-hours Cirque Ma'Ceo equestrian circus is billed as the highlight, alongside an Artisan Marketplace, medieval games, turkey legs, ale and mead, and a cast of strolling characters. It is family-friendly, runs 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. rain or shine, and offers free parking. Note that Fargo has hosted two separate Renaissance events; this is the original, held at the Horse Park rather than the Red River Valley fairgrounds.

Attendees who favor the Horse Park event praise it as small but high-quality and better than the competing fairgrounds faire, and many hope it keeps growing. The most consistent criticism targets the marquee jousting and staged shows: some visitors found the joust underwhelming (few unhorsings, missed rings, crackling audio) and struggled to remember the performers, though the equestrian act Cheeks and Phoenix drew praise. Opinions on the event are genuinely split.
