Sarasota Opera's Winter Opera Festival fills the historic Sarasota Opera House with four productions in repertory from February to March. The 2027 festival opens with Verdi's La traviata on February 6 and adds Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore from February 13, Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos from February 27 and Janáček's Jenůfa from March 6, closing on March 21. Because the operas alternate, visitors during the Opera Lovers Weeks, March 2 to 14, can see all four in as few as three days. Every opera is sung in its original language with English translations above the stage.
How it works
Evening performances start at 7:30 PM and matinees at 1:30 PM. Tickets run from $25.75 in the mezzanine and balcony to about $185 for the best seats, with the orchestra from $77.25, and anyone who books all four operas for one Opera Lovers Week through the box office at (941) 328-1300 gets 10% off. Wheelchair seating is on the orchestra level only and is booked by phone. The Palm Avenue Garage behind the Opera House gives the first hour free and charges a few dollars after that, and it is free on Sundays.
