The Seattle Chamber Music Society's Winter Festival gathers internationally known chamber musicians in downtown Seattle each January under artistic director and violinist James Ehnes. The 2027 festival runs January 22 to 31 with six concerts in Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall and a focus on Robert Schumann: six of his works, including all three string quartets in one weekend. Suk's Piano Quintet on January 23 and Borodin's String Quintet on January 31 honor SCMS founder Toby Saks. The 22 musicians include pianists Charles Richard-Hamelin, Orion Weiss and Tom Borrow and violinists Erin Keefe and Josef Špaček, with Borrow, Špaček and violist Blythe Teh Engstroem making their SCMS debuts.
How it works
Concerts are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 PM over two weekends, and each one starts with a free pre-concert program an hour earlier. Single tickets are $70 standard and $75 premium, $30 for students and anyone 30 and under, and a Pay What You Can section sells seats from $5. Anyone who cannot attend can stream each concert live or afterward through the SCMS Virtual Concert Hall. A coat check is on the second level in the Nordstrom Recital Hall lobby, and SCMS sells a limited number of prepaid passes for Benaroya Hall's garage.
