The experience

What's special

The Tournament of Knights is a one-day medieval and Renaissance festival held each July at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds in Sheridan, Wyoming, staged as the annual fundraiser for CHAPS Equine Assisted Services, a local therapeutic-horsemanship nonprofit. The day-long fair pairs a Renaissance-faire marketplace and family activities - a medieval market, Knight Academy, sword fighting, an escape room, battle archery, bounce houses, games, food vendors and turkey legs, photos with the knights, and a costume contest - with an evening headline joust by the Knights of Valour, a full-contact jousting troupe from Ontario, Canada led by Captain Shane Adams, whom the organizer bills as a multiple-time world champion featured on the History Channel's 'Full Metal Jousting.' Gates open at 10am and the main jousting show begins at 5pm, with a separately ticketed Queen's Feast offered alongside.

Last time around

CHAPS Equine Assisted Services hosted the Tournament of Knights on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds, reported locally as the event's 9th annual edition. The Renaissance-faire-inspired day ran roughly 10am to 8pm and featured aerial performers, medieval-style combat demonstrations, a medieval marketplace, food vendors, and full-contact jousting by the Knights of Valour, with local live musicians performing through the day.

Costumes & what to wear

Do I need a costume?

The event has a Renaissance-faire theme and runs a costume contest, so period or fantasy dress fits right in, but it is a family festival with no stated dress requirement and most attendees come in ordinary clothes

Joining in

Attendees can browse a medieval marketplace of vendors and artisans, take part in a costume contest, try battle archery, a stockade, an escape room, bounce houses and games, get photos with the knights, and eat fair food including turkey legs; a separately ticketed Queen's Feast with entertainment is also offered
