De La Soul was an American hip hop group formed in 1988 in Amityville, on Long Island, New York, made up of Posdnuos, Trugoy the Dove, and Maseo. Known for eclectic sampling and playful, offbeat lyrics, they helped pioneer alternative hip hop. Their 1989 debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is widely regarded as a landmark of the genre.
