Billed as the West Coast's largest rock and metal festival, Aftershock takes over Discovery Park at the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers for four October days of hard rock, metal, punk and hardcore across five stages. Danny Wimmer Presents built the lineup around legacy headliners alongside newer metalcore and hardcore acts, drawing a loyal, largely out-of-town crowd that treats it as an annual pilgrimage. Long-time attendees describe it as a yearly ritual and a genre community as much as a concert, with families who grew up on the music now bringing their own kids

Attendees consistently single out the Discovery Park setting itself open grass fields and shaded areas that regulars say beat every comparable festival, especially against asphalt-lot alternatives. The 2025 edition ran October 2-5 at Discovery Park and drew a record crowd of more than 164,000 across the four days, headlined by blink-182, Deftones, Korn and Bring Me The Horizon. Weather swung from early rain and some mud to warmer, sunnier conditions attendees called merciful compared to the festival's usual heat. Community reaction afterward was largely positive and many said they'd return, but recurring gripes centered on high food and drink prices, thin medical/security coverage relative to the crowd size, and phone and item theft

Capitol Corridor trains serve Sacramento Valley Station (401 I St), roughly 1.9 miles / ~32 min walk from Discovery Park (or a short rideshare/local-transit connection). The line does not run to/from SMF airport itself pair with rideshare, taxi, or a rental car for the airport leg

Greyhound and FlixBus intercity coaches serve the Sacramento Bus Station (420 Richards Blvd), a similar distance from Discovery Park as the Amtrak station. No coach runs directly to SMF or to the festival site connect onward via rideshare or taxi
Book / info →Yolobus 42A/42B runs an intercity loop through SMF, downtown Sacramento, West Sacramento, and Davis. SacRT's Route 142 Express Airport Bus runs nonstop between SMF and downtown Sacramento every 20-30 min, 7 days/week. Neither route reaches Discovery Park directly from downtown Sacramento a further local bus, rideshare, or ~30 min walk is needed to close the gap

Uber and Lyft operate 24/7 at SMF; walk to the curbside 'Passenger Pickups'/TNC-Rideshare zone outside baggage claim. Taxis queue curbside at baggage claim (SITOA dispatch). At the festival end, rideshare/taxi is NOT curbside at Discovery Park all pickup/drop-off is routed to the dedicated Jibboom St. Pick-Up Zone on the park's south side (exit via Jibboom St., cross the Jibboom St. Bridge, follow the bike path under the I-5 overpass to the zone near 500 Bercut Drive)
