The experience
What's special
A community yoga and wellness weekend in Waynesville, North Carolina timed to International Day of Yoga and the summer solstice, between the Blue Ridge and the Great Smoky Mountains. The 2026 edition packed 33 instructors and 38 classes into the Folkmoot Friendship Center campus over Friday evening and all day Saturday: yoga, qigong, somatics, sound healing, hooping, wellness talks, a free 50-vendor Makers & Healers Bazaar, a kickoff parade, live marimba on the Green and a free kids village, then moved to Elk & Embers on Sunday for solstice yoga hikes and forest bathing. The 2026 theme was Hope
Last time around
The 2nd annual edition ran June 19-21, 2026 with the theme of Hope: 33 instructors offering 38 classes, a free bazaar with 50+ vendors, free children’s area and parade, Chikomo Marimba concerts, and three tiers of Sunday solstice hikes at Elk & Embers (two sold out pre-festival)

The practice
all levels, family friendly. The 2026 event described "traditional all-level yoga classes. . a variety of mind-body movement, group fitness, functional training, and holistic therapy sessions", with adaptive and seated options plus more vigorous formats (power vinyasa, hoop fitness)
Slower, foundational postures held breath by breath. The classic starting point.
Flowing sequences that link breath to movement. Expect to move and sweat.
Long, passive floor holds that reach deep tissue. Slow, quiet and meditative.
Guided lying-down meditation on the edge of sleep. No movement at all.
Breathwork, chanting and repeated movements aimed at energy and focus more than a workout.
Fully supported poses with props, built for rest and recovery rather than effort.
Poses adapted to a chair, accessible whatever your mobility.
