Pete Townshend (born May 19, 1945, in Chiswick, London, England) is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter, best known as the guitarist and principal songwriter of the rock band The Who, which he co-founded in 1964. He wrote the band's rock operas Tommy and Quadrophenia and became known for his use of feedback and instrument destruction in performance. He has also released several solo albums.
