Louder Than Life rode out a Friday evacuation, and Papa Roach had to pull out

Louder Than Life ran 17 to 20 September at the Highland Festival Grounds in Louisville. Severe storms forced a Code Red evacuation on Friday afternoon and fans sheltered in their cars; the grounds reopened around 5:15 pm and the day resumed on pushed-back set times, with My Chemical Romance headlining after 10 pm. Papa Roach withdrew from the weekend after doctors advised bassist Tobin Esperance he could not perform. Limp Bizkit closed Saturday and Tool closed Sunday.

September festivals still catch the weather, and this is how a well-run one handles it: shelter, reopen, and move the set times rather than lose the day. If you are heading to an outdoor show this month, keep the festival app alerts on and know where you would take cover.

Shaky Knees sold out Piedmont Park with the Strokes, Twenty One Pilots and Gorillaz

Shaky Knees ran 18 to 20 September at Piedmont Park in Atlanta and sold out the weekend. The Strokes headlined Friday, Twenty One Pilots Saturday and Gorillaz Sunday, over a bill that reached across indie, punk and hip-hop. Jimmy Eat World pulled out in the week before the festival: frontman Jim Adkins needs surgery for a detached retina, and late-night ticket holders were refunded.

A sold-out city festival is a different rhythm from a camping weekend: you sleep at home and pace three days on your feet. If you had a ticket to Jimmy Eat World's late-night show, check for your automatic refund.

Lost Lands filled Legend Valley again: three sold-out days of bass

Excision's Lost Lands returned to Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio from 18 to 20 September and sold out. The festival published full set times before the gates and streamed the main stage through its Couch Lands livestream for anyone who could not make the drive.

Lost Lands is one of the country's biggest dedicated bass festivals, and camping is part of the experience: dinosaurs, huge production and very large subwoofers included. If you missed out, the Couch Lands stream is how regulars catch the sets they could not reach in person.

Rolling Loud announced its 2027 Florida edition for 7 to 9 May at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, a second year in the city after a decade in Miami. Presale access opened on 17 September, with a low-deposit layaway option on passes.

Pilgrimage is back for 2027, moving from September to a spring weekend in Franklin

After sitting out 2026, the Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival announced its return to the Park at Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin, Tennessee for 10 and 11 April 2027. It is a move from the festival's usual September dates to spring. A lineup has not been released yet.

A hiatus year does not always mean the end, and this one did not. If you have been waiting for Pilgrimage to come back, put the April weekend in your calendar before the lineup and the ticket rush arrive.

Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist of New Found Glory, has died at 45

Chad Gilbert, who co-founded New Found Glory and played guitar in the band for nearly thirty years, died on 20 September at the age of 45, after living with cancer since 2021. His family and bandmates said he passed peacefully in his sleep.

New Found Glory helped shape the pop-punk that still fills festival bills today, and their songs have been sung back at crowds for a generation. If his playing meant something to you, this weekend is a good time to put the records on.

Renaissance faire season is open across the country, from Maryland to Kansas City

Autumn is peak renaissance faire season, and this week the local news filled up with openings. The fall faires are running most weekends now, from late summer through late October and, in a few places, deep into November. Here are faires open or opening around the country, in the order their seasons run out.

Almost all of these run weekends only, so a weekday visit finds an empty field. Check the themed weekends too: jousting, Celtic, pirate and Halloween weekends each draw a different crowd and a different costume.
