New on Froligo

Five new kinds of weekend

Froligo now covers tattoo conventions, psychic fairs, rodeos and state fairs, comic cons and yoga festivals. What each one is, where it happens, what it costs, and what is on next.

The Froligo Desk · 18 October 2026 · 6 min read

For its first year Froligo was a music festival directory. In the week to 18 October, 339 new records went live, and almost all of them belong to five sections that are not about bands at all. Each has its own hub, and every event page carries dates, venue and prices the same way the music festivals do. Here is what came in, section by section, and what is on next in each.

The counts below are the live pages on each hub today; the hubs themselves show when each season peaks and where it clusters.

A tattoo convention is a hotel ballroom or convention hall filled with artists at folding tables, Friday to Sunday, and you can book a sitting months ahead or walk in and wait. Entry runs about $20 to $60 at the door, the tattoo is on top, and most weekends end with contests judged on the floor. The big circuits, Ink Masters, Villain Arts, Hell City, move city to city through the autumn.

The season does not stop for winter; it moves indoors, which is where it already was.

Psychic, tarot and metaphysical: 128 fairs, 27 states

Psychic, tarot and metaphysical: 128 fairs, 27 states

A psychic fair is usually a Saturday in a hotel hall, a metaphysical shop or a community centre: rows of readers at tables, crystals and candles for sale, a talk or two in a side room. Entry is free or under $20; the reading is what you pay for, by the table. They run all year and cluster in October, when Salem turns the whole month into one.

The largest this month is the Body Mind Spirit Celebration in Schaumburg, outside Chicago, which fills a convention centre hall for a weekend. Most of the rest fit in one room, which is rather the point.

Rodeos and fairs: 44 so far, 34 states

This is the oldest kind of American festival and the one the directory had somehow never covered. State fairs run ten days to three weeks from August into November, with a rodeo arena, a midway, livestock barns and a concert stage, for $10 to $20 at the gate. The rodeos proper run all year, from a weekly show in the Fort Worth Stockyards to the National Finals in Las Vegas in December and the great winter stock shows in Denver and Fort Worth in January.

Forty-four is a start, not a count: there are fifty state fairs alone, and this section will grow fastest.

Comic cons and anime: 37 conventions, 18 states

Comic cons and anime: 37 conventions, 18 states

A comic con is a convention centre weekend built on three things: a guest list you queue for, panels you sit in, and a floor you walk in costume. Passes run from about $40 for a day to $130 for the weekend, and the anime conventions, Youmacon, Kumoricon, Anime Weekend Atlanta, are the same shape with a younger crowd and better cosplay.

Halloween weekend is the one time of year the street outside is dressed like the floor, and two of them land on it.

Yoga and wellness: 90 festivals, 38 states

Yoga festivals run from a free Sunday morning in a city park, mats on the grass and a few hundred people, to retreat weekends in the mountains at $100 to $500 with meals and a cabin. The park ones are the easy first try; Orlando's at Lake Eola on 1 November and St. Pete's on the pier a week later are both free.

The season follows the weather south: Florida and California through the winter, the mountains from spring.

Each of these sections will carry its own line in the Desk from here on, the same way the genres do: what changed, what is coming up, and what people are asking. If your weekend is one of these, the directory finally knows about it.

Verified Counts are the live pages on each hub on 18 October. Dates, venues and prices are from each festival's own Froligo page, which cites its source.
